What a Magical Night!

On Tuesday, August 9th we hosted our August AFSA PNW Chapter Quarterly meeting. There were sprinkler heads being set off, history lessons being given, talk about apprenticeship, the next generation, and our future all washed down with some of the most scrumptious steak, salmon, burgers and pizza. There’s really something magical when the fire sprinkler industry gathers together. There are so many familiar faces and warm greetings, intelligent conversations as well as silly ones, it feels like being around family more then it feels like business.

Thank you everyone who came out to our Chapter Meeting this past Tuesday it wouldn’t of been the same without any one of you. Special thanks to Cary Webber with Reliable for his incredible Fire Sprinkler demonstration and generous sponsorship of our dinner, Jeff Livaudais for flying all the way up here from National to support our apprenticeship efforts, Mark Knurek with Lubrizol for his special pre-meeting session and the entire staff at the Flat Iron Grill for providing such incredible service.

We look forward to our future together!

To see even more photos of the event I created a shared google photo album,

The Fundamentals of Succession Planning, Special Event.

On Wednesday last week we had out special seminar event about the Fundamentals of Succession and Estate Planning for the Business Owner with Kris Gray and it turned out great! Kris was full of valuable information that could save any business owner both money and headaches. Flat Iron Grill & the Black Duck restaurants provided us with a smorgasbord of fine food from a selection of burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, and salads. Thank you everyone who came out and participated, we thoroughly enjoyed your company and your input really added value to the afternoon!

April Chapter Meeting Recap

Thank you everyone for another great meeting last night! We voted on our new Board of Directors for our chapter last night and I would like to congratulate Tracy Moore as our new Chair, Myself as our new Vice Chair, and Chris Russell as our new Secretary / Treasurer. Thank you to our previous Board of Directors, Randy Knight as Chair, Ashton Wolfe as Vice Chair and Tracy Moore as Secretary / Treasurer, for all that hard work they’ve put in the previous years.
We discussed many opportunities and directions that we would like to take the chapter towards, such as varying our meeting strategy (location, speakers, accessibility), establishing our own Chapter hosted Apprenticeship program for Washington State, continuing our relationship and efforts with the WA State Fire Sprinkler Coalition to progress towards a Fire Sprinkler Mandate in the next 3 code cycles, and the possibility of putting on a Pacific Northwest Industry Tradeshow in the next year or two as well as what roles our Next Gen can play to help in on these efforts.

If you have any desire to join in and help, we welcome you! We will be sending out an email soon looking for members of our task-focused committees that we feel are necessary to accomplish these goals. Together we can accomplish anything!

We are invited to attend the Residential Fire Sprinkler ‘Help Us, Help You’ Best Practices Forum

Hi Everyone, the Washington State Fire Sprinkler Coalition would like to invite our local AFSA group to join “The Residential FIre Sprinkler ‘Help Us, Help You’ Best Practices forum” on March 15th from 10am-12pm with a complimentary lunch to immediately follow from 12pm-1pm, at the Redmond City Council Chambers.
This will be an open forum of builders, sprinkler installers, developers and Fire Marshals to help us identify common residential fire sprinkler issues, concerns, and irregularities among the various jurisdictions across Washington. Your input will be used to guide the Coalition in assembling a “Best Practices Guide for the Review, Permitting and Inspection of Residential Fire Sprinkler Systems” to be presented at the upcoming Fire Institute in October.
If you plan on attending the lunch, please RSVP to wfsc.contact@gmail.com to ensure an accurate head count.

Thanks for a great chapter meeting!

Thanks everyone for a great chapter meeting last night!
We heard from lobbyist Tim Johnson who will be monitoring all legislative bills being introduced that could affect the Fire Sprinkler industry. He had great advice on how our association can gain more influence by meeting with our local representatives in our individual districts, putting together our legislative list of goals and priorities and the timeline on how quickly we need to act when reacting to a proposed bill or introducing a new one.
We also nominated 3 individuals for the leadership positions of our chapter, Tracy Moore for Chairman, Myself for Vice Chair and Chris Russell for Secretary/Treasurer. Voting will commence at our April chapter meeting with the option to email in your votes if you can not attend (voting is restricted to members of our local chapter).
Thirdly, I re-implemented our AFSA website by adding a Member Benefits, Next Gen & Social media page with more to come! Please email me if you have any suggestions or requests. Also if you have any photos of our industry please send them my way so I can put them on the site.
Can’t wait to see everyone again in April!

February 2016 Meeting
